To begin with, you need to first understand what exactly SEO or Search Engine Optimization means! As you might have understood optimization is the process of modifying a system to make some aspect of it work more efficiently. In this case the ‘System’ is the Search Engine.

There are two steps of any optimization. One is On-site optimization and the other is off-site optimization. We will first see what on-site optimization is.

On-Site optimization:

Any changes done ON your site (optimization on your site) and no where else is called ON-SITE optimization. This includes Meta tags, descriptions, keywords, titles, link structures, sitemaps etc. These are the very basics and very important part of the process of optimization.

Off-Site optimization:

Any changes done OFF your site or on other site to increase your rankings and results is called OFF-SITE optimization. Off-site optimization is too big to explain right now and hence I will just give you few examples of it like – link building, articles submission, directory submission, social bookmarking etc. These are just to name a few.
